🚗 Ready to Roll? Your Shecanic Road Trip Prep Guide

Hey there, Shecanic road tripper! 🌟 Before you hit the open road for that epic getaway or college send-off, let's ensure your car is as ready as your playlist.

Here's your go-to guide to keep your ride smooth, safe, and stress-free.

🛣️ Take a Test Drive

Start with a short drive around your neighborhood. Listen and feel for anything unusual:

  • Brakes: Any squeaking, pulling, or shaking?

  • Steering & Suspension: Does the car drift or feel loose?

  • Transmission: Smooth shifting or any hesitation?

  • Engine: Unusual noises or smells?

If something feels off, it's time to consult your Primary Car Technician (PCT).

💡 Light It Up

Grab a friend and check all your lights:

  • Brake Lights: Press the brake pedal; all three lights should illuminate.

  • Turn Signals: Activate each signal and ensure both front and rear lights flash.

  • Reverse Lights: Shift into reverse (with the brake on) and check for white lights at the back.

  • Headlights & High Beams: Turn them on and ensure they're bright and clear.

  • License Plate Lights: Make sure your plate is visible at night.

Replace any bulbs that are out to stay safe and legal.

🌧️ Wiper Check

Visibility is key. Test your wipers:

  • Turn them on and spray washer fluid.

  • If they streak, skip, or leave spots, it's time for new blades.

Remember to check the rear wiper if your car has one.

🔧 Under the Hood

Pop the hood and inspect:

  • Engine Air Filter: Replace if it's dirty; aim for once a year or every 15,000 miles.

  • Fluids: Check levels and top off if needed:

    • Brake Fluid

    • Power Steering Fluid

    • Coolant

    • Windshield Washer Fluid

  • Belts: Look for cracks or fraying.

  • Battery: Check for corrosion on terminals and ensure it's securely mounted.

If you're unsure about any of these, your PCT can help.

🛞 Tire Time

Your tires are your connection to the road:

  • Tread Depth: Use the penny test; insert a penny into the tread with Lincoln's head down. If you can see all of his head, it's time for new tires.

  • Pressure: Check and inflate to the recommended PSI.

  • Spare Tire: Ensure it's in good condition and properly inflated.

🛠️ Maintenance Check

  • Oil Change: Is it due? Fresh oil keeps your engine happy.

  • Dashboard Lights: Any warning lights on? Don't ignore them.

  • Mileage Milestones:

    • Under 50,000 miles: Regular maintenance should suffice.

    • 50,000–100,000 miles: Consider a comprehensive check-up.

    • Over 100,000 miles: Schedule a thorough inspection before long trips.

🎶 Final Touches

  • Emergency Kit: Include jumper cables, flashlight, first-aid kit, and basic tools.

  • Documents: Ensure registration and insurance are up to date.

  • Entertainment: Curate that perfect playlist and download maps for offline use.
